Kids today: Three teens found in the 200 block of North Fifth Street just after 1 a.m. were cited for underage consumption and turned over to their families Wednesday. Police said one of the juveniles, a girl, was sitting on the curb and appeared to be in distress, while a juvenile boy was sitting on the steps of an abandoned building. The third juvenile, a girl, said they were waiting on a ride. As she spoke police said they could smell alcohol, then realized the other two had also been indulging.

Pocket money: A man in the 100 block of South Ninth Street said someone slipped into his house while he was sleeping and stole $50 he had in his pants pocket, Thursday. He figures a suspect he knows who is aware his back door doesn’t lock snuck in.

Drugs, theft charged: A city resident who allegedly tried to walk out of Kroger Wednesday with $124 in cleaning supplies she hadn’t paid for ended up being charged with three drug offenses as well. Carrin M. Butler, 42, 515 Pittsburgh St., was charged with possession of drugs, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to petit theft. Butler allegedly had heroin tucked in her bra, and three hypodermic needles, one of them charged, along with a crack pipe; a burned spoon with residue; two pairs of scissors; Chor-Boy; a small pill bottle and a short piece of cylindrical metal used for cleaning, when she was taken into custody.

Wrong: A McDowell Avenue resident complained that illegitimate no parking signs had been posted in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue. Police who investigated said a construction company was replacing a gas main. The no parking signs were legitimate.

Check off: Another business reported a stolen check Wednesday, this time with two fraudulent checks created from that one stolen check.

Lots to do: Callers reported a man lying in a parking lot in South Court Alley near Holy Trinity Greek Church Wednesday. The man told police he was just resting; they advised him to “find somewhere more suitable than a parking lot.”

Window shopping: Two men were reported trying to enter a residence in the 400 block of South Fourth Street through a window, but they were gone when police arrived.

Lead foot: A driver was stopped Wednesday at North Seventh and Washington streets after an officer allegedly clocked him driving at speeds upward of 50 miles per hour in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard and traveling eastward at a high rate of speed,” He told police the vehicle was new to him and the speedometer was broken, so he was given a warning.

Booked: Richard German, 26, 180 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, petit theft. German allegedly loaded a backpack with merchandise and fled Sunset Market Wednesday, police said.

Booked: Mahogany Luke, 31, 459 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, child endangerment, Wednesday.

Sucker punched: A Dillonvale man was “punched in the face with a knife” by another person during an argument, Wednesday. His girlfriend said the two of them were arguing “over an unknown sum of money.” Another roommate said when he realized the severity of his roommate’s injuries, he stepped between the two. He said the alleged perpetrator assumed an aggressive posture, and he was able to subdue the suspect. Once the knife fell to the floor, the suspect fled the residence. EMS transported the victim to East Ohio Regional Hospital.

Fallen: A Steubenville man has been charged with criminal trespass, criminal damaging and possession of criminal tools after he was found lying in the weeds July 20 at the Yorkville Intermodal property. Deputies said Vernon James Jackson, 39, 630 Lincoln Ave. (rear) was found lying beneath a telephone pole with wires hanging that appeared to have been cut. He initially told deputies he was “cutting through and fell,” and “hesitantly” admitted ownership of a bag containing criminal tools “commonly used to cut wire,” the deputy said. Jackson allegedly told the deputy he thought he broke his collar bone and needed a bottle of water out of the book bag, but denied falling from the pole or being shocked. He was taken to East Ohio Regional Hospital for evaluation.

Stolen: A Bloomingdale man said two weapons were stolen from under his mattress in his trailer.
